What You Should Know About Invisalign® Aligners Before Getting Them

Nobody should have to live the rest of their lives hiding their smile. If you want to straighten your misaligned smile or your crooked teeth without having to wear metal wires, bands, or brackets, then Invisalign is the way to go. However, before you schedule an appointment with your dentist, it is a wise idea to do some background reading on what to expect from the orthodontic treatment and what you need to do to ensure its success.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that straightens teeth using a series of clear, removable aligners rather than traditional metal wires and brackets. These BPA-free plastic aligners are nearly invisible and highly comfortable to use.

Things You Should Know Before Getting Invisalign

  • They Require Routine Maintenance

While Invisalign aligners are nearly undetectable, the attachments that keep them in place are stain-prone. You must remove the trays before drinking coffee, soda, or wine to avoid discoloration. Once you start wearing the aligners, you'll have to take your oral hygiene more seriously and immerse your aligners in a specific Invisalign cleaning solution.

  • They Must Remain on for the Most of the Time

Except when eating or brushing your teeth, you should wear your clear aligners at all times. Wear them for at least 22 hours a day, according to your dentist's instructions.

  • It Takes Some Getting Used To Removing Them

Unlike traditional metal braces, which cannot be removed, Invisalign aligners can be removed at any time. However, it takes some time to get acclimated to the technique. You'll be able to accomplish it in no time with practice.

What Kinds of Orthodontic Problems Does Invisalign Treat?

Invisalign is a clear aligner that can help with many orthodontic problems. The most common problems are crooked teeth, overbites, and underbites. Invisalign can help close gaps between teeth and straighten teeth that are crowded, overlapping or twisting. It can also fix a crossbite (when some higher teeth sit inside rather than outside the lower teeth when the mouth is closed) and an open bite (when the upper and lower teeth do not contact).

Are You Considering Upgrading Your Smile with Invisalign®?

Invisalign addresses almost every issue and concern that people have had with traditional braces for decades. By reducing discomfort, increasing confidence, and providing revolutionary benefits, Invisalign can help you live a better life.
